For tandem bungy jumps, the maximum weight difference between participants is 30kg. Combined weight limits apply to all tandem bungy options, and final suitability is assessed by our crew on the day. There are no strict height limits, but you must fit securely in the harness or safety systems. Weather conditions may affect operational weight rang
Can I do a tandem jump or ride?
Yes. Tandem options are available on Kawarau Bridge Bungy, Kawarau Swing, Kawarau Zipride, Nevis Swing, Taupō Bungy, Taupō Swing, Auckland SkyRide, SkyJump and Auckland Harbour Bridge Bungy. Combined weight limits apply, and suitability is assessed by our crew on the day.
What’s the difference between a bungy and a swing?
A bungy uses elastic cords that stretch and rebound after freefall, giving you a bouncing experience. A swing uses cables and rope — you drop and then swing in a large arc, like a giant pendulum, with no bounce. A SkyJump is a controlled descent using a guided cable system and is designed to feel smooth and progressive rather than like a freefall.
Can friends and family watch?
Yes. Most sites have spectator areas. Some locations may charge a small spectator fee — check the individual activity page for details.
Can I touch the water during my bungy?
At some sites (Kawarau Bridge Bungy, Taupō and Auckland Bridge), water touches may be available depending on conditions. Water touches are not guaranteed and are always at the crew’s discretion.
Will my experience be cancelled if it rains?
We operate in most weather conditions, including rain. If weather exceeds our operational limits and we are unable to operate, you will be offered a transfer, reschedule or refund.
What happens if I decide not to jump on the day?
If you choose not to go ahead with the activity on the day, this is treated as a no-show and is generally non-refundable unless covered under our refund policy.
How does the refund policy work?
If we cancel due to weather or safety reasons, you will receive a full refund or free reschedule. If you cancel more than 48 hours before your activity, you’ll receive a 100% refund, minus the 1.99% card transaction fee. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before your activity are non-refundable. Once requested, refunds typically take 5–10 business days to process.
Accessibility & Preparation
Do I need to disclose a medical condition before booking an experience?
Some medical conditions and circumstances may affect whether you can safely take part, including heart conditions, epilepsy, pregnancy, and recent surgery. If any of these apply to you or someone in your group, please contact our team before booking at [email protected] or disclose your medical condition at check-in so we can advise on your specific activity.
Are there accessibility options?
Accessibility varies by activity and site. Some locations offer modified access or support, while others involve stairs, walking tracks or gondola access. If you have accessibility requirements, please contact our reservations team before booking.
How can I prepare for my activity?
Wear closed-toe shoes such as sneakers or trainers. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for the weather. Remove loose items and jewellery. Make sure all pockets are empty. Arrive at least 15 minutes before your booked time.
Can I wear glasses during the activity?
Due to the risk of eyewear breaking during an activity, you are not permitted to wear your own glasses while completing our activities. However, we have a range of prescription safety goggles available — please chat to the crew on the day.
The Experience
Do you allow spectators?
Yes, spectators are welcome! All our sites let friends and family watch. It’s free and no booking is needed at the Kawarau Bungy Centre, The Ledge Bungy & Swing, The Sky Tower, and Taupō Bungy & Swing. For the Nevis Playground, Auckland Harbour Bridge, and bus customers for the Kawarau Bungy Centre, you’ll need to book a spectator spot, which is $50 for Nevis adults (free for under 10s), free for the Kawarau, and $20 for Auckland Harbour Bridge. Book a spot in the "add-ons" during booking online, or contact our reservations team at [email protected].
How do I book a tandem experience?
Going tandem (2 or more people on the experience at a time) is available at the Kawarau Bridge Bungy, Kawarau Swing, Kawarau Zipride, Nevis Swing, Taupō Bungy, Taupō Swing, Auckland SkyRide, Auckland SkyJump and Auckland Harbour Bridge Bungy. To book a tandem, just reserve two individual spots for the same time and drop a note in the comments saying you want to go tandem. You can also decide on the day if you want to go solo or tandem!
What happens after the jump? How do I get back up?
Recovery methods vary by site and may also change depending on weather conditions. At the Kawarau Bridge and Taupō, you're lowered to a boat waiting below. At the Ledge Bungy, Nevis Playground and Auckland Bridge, you're lifted back up to the platform you started from. Whichever way you come back, our crew will continue to host you through the experience. Most visits take around 1.5 - 2 hours from check-in to finish, including getting harnessed up, completing the experience, and reviewing your photos and video after the fact.
What does bungy jumping feel like? Will I experience whiplash?
Bungy jumping is intense but controlled. You’ll feel a strong initial drop followed by a smooth stretch as the cord absorbs the energy of the jump. Our bungy systems are designed to prevent whiplash by gradually decelerating your fall rather than stopping you abruptly. The forces involved are well within safe limits, and our crew guide you through every step, so you know what to expect.
Will I be pushed off the bungy?
No. Part of the bungy experience is overcoming fear and making the leap yourself. As a rule, we never push guests unless they ask. Our jump crew will be right there to coach and support you, talking you through exactly what to do so you feel confident and ready when you choose to jump.
How am I attached and how do you know it’s safe?
You’re secured using professional harness systems with multiple points of attachment. Every connection is checked and double-checked by trained staff before each jump. Our equipment and procedures meet strict safety standards
Will my retinas fall out?
No. Bungy jumping does not cause your retinas to fall out. The forces involved are well within safe limits, and our systems are designed with safety as the priority.

Can I drive myself to the Nevis Playground?
Nope, you can’t drive to the Nevis—it’s on private land. Our transport is compulsory. If you want to cut down your trip time, you can drive to the Kawarau Bridge (1693 Gibbston Highway) and catch our bus from there. Safety
Are you a certified or registered operator? What safety standards do you follow?
AJ Hackett Bungy NZ is registered under the WorkSafe adventure activity regulations, audited frequency, and operates in accordance with national and international industry standards. We’re quite the pioneers when it comes to Bungy Jumping. So, after we opened, we quickly recognised the need for a written set of rules for commercial operations. We instigated the Code of Practice in 1990. This was written with the help of a variety of industry partners from the adventure, construction and tourism sectors. It’s now an industry standard for Australia and New Zealand, and used as a guideline throughout the world.
How often is your equipment inspected and replaced?
Cords and harnesses are inspected before every use by trained crew, and retired well ahead of manufacturer or regulatory limits. All our equipment is subject to rigorous internal regulatory controls and our quality assurance system determines that all equipment is fit for use at all times.
What's your safety record?
The safety, security and enjoyment of our customers is our absolute number one priority. AJ Hackett Bungy NZ has been operating for nearly 40 years with over 2 million+ jumps completed. Our equipment and procedures are continually assessed, and done in accordance with national and international industry standards.
How am I attached and how do you know it's safe?
You're secured using professional harness systems with multiple points of attachment, checked and double-checked by trained staff before every jump. AJ Hackett Bungy NZ is a registered adventure activity operator under WorkSafe New Zealand, audited frequency as part of that registration. Our cords and equipment are inspected before every use and are retired well ahead of any safety threshold.
