The Nevis Playground isn't just a jump site - it's a full extreme adventure experience. Everything here is built around the drama of the Nevis Valley: sheer cliffs, a river far below, and nothing but open sky. Getting there is part of the experience - the only way in is our 4WD Bungy Bus along a narrow gravel track.

Let’s do this.

Let’s do this.

The Nevis Valley

The Nevis Valley

The Nevis Valley is a remote schist canyon in the Remarkables range, about 45 minutes from Queenstown. It sits at altitude, cut off from the main roads, and accessible only via a narrow gravel track that winds down into the valley from the Crown Range. For most of its history it was sheep farming country - the kind of place that most Queenstown visitors never see.

AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand chose the Nevis Valley for exactly that remoteness. The canyon walls drop sharply to the Nevis River below, providing the vertical height and dramatic setting that the Nevis Bungy required. When it opened, the 134-metre jump set a new benchmark for bungy jumping in New Zealand - a record it still holds today.

The Nevis Playground has since grown to include three of the world's most extreme gravity-based experiences, all engineered specifically for the canyon. The drive out is deliberately left rough - the 4WD journey through the backcountry is part of what makes a visit to the Nevis Playground feel different from every other adventure experience in Queenstown.

Transport

Bungy bus

Bungy Bus - the only way in

The Nevis Playground is not accessible by private vehicle. The only way to get there is on the AJ Hackett 4WD Bungy Bus, which departs from the Queenstown Bungy Centre at the corner of Shotover Street and Camp Street in central Queenstown. Return Bungy Bus transport is included in the price of all Nevis experiences. Check in at the Queenstown Bungy Centre at least 30 minutes before your departure time.

Trip time from Queenstown: allow 4 hours total including the journey and your experience.

Shorter journey option

To shorten the journey, you can request a pickup from the Kawarau Bungy Centre on the Gibbston Highway. Call 0800 286 4958 or use Live Chat to arrange this at the time of booking.

Private concierge

For a fully private Nevis experience, AJ Hackett offers door-to-experience concierge transfer in a premium vehicle with a dedicated private host. See bungy.co.nz/exclusive-experiences for details.

Spectators & Groups

Spectators are welcome to travel to the Nevis Playground on the 4WD Bungy Bus and experience the site - including crossing over to the Nevis Pod - without taking part in any activities. It's a genuinely spectacular place to visit, and watching a 134-metre bungy from the viewing platform is an experience in itself. Cost: $50 per person. Minimum age 7 years. Children under 10 must be supervised at all times.

The Nevis Playground is one of the most popular corporate and group adventure experiences in New Zealand. For groups of 10 or more, contact us directly at [email protected] or call our reservations team at 0800 286 4958. Individual bookings of fewer than 10 can be made online through our website.
