Team Building AJ Hackett Style

Team building has a bit of a reputation. Trust falls in a conference room. Name tags. An icebreaker that nobody asked for, followed by a worksheet about “synergy”.

Everyone goes along with it. Everyone’s polite. And by Monday, everyone’s back at their desks exactly as they were.

Now imagine a different kind of team day.

One where the person who sits quietly in the corner at every meeting is suddenly standing on the edge of a canyon, while forty colleagues cheer them on.

One where the boss is just as nervous as the new starter.

One where everyone goes home with a story, and a whole new level of respect for the people they work with.

Why Bungy Works for Team Building

Here’s the thing about standing on the edge: job titles don’t really matter up there.

Everyone feels the nerves. Everyone gets the same countdown. And everyone needs a bit of encouragement to take that final step.

That’s what makes adventure such a powerful way to bring a group together. It strips away the everyday stuff and leaves you with something very simple: people backing each other.

You see colleagues at their most nervous, and then at their most proud. You cheer for people you’ve only ever emailed. You find yourself high-fiving someone from a completely different department because you both just did something terrifying.

And that sticks. Long after the adrenaline wears off, the respect stays.

How Robbins Research Group Took On the Nevis

When Robbins Research Group brought their team to Queenstown, they didn’t want a standard day out.

They wanted the big one.

Over three days, 300 guests took on the Nevis Playground, home to New Zealand’s highest bungy. Our bungy buses shuttled the group to and from site, with stops at OXBOW Adventures for more action and Kinross for lunch.

At the Nevis, the group had the full line-up to choose from: the Nevis Bungy, the Nevis Swing and the Nevis Catapult. Plenty of the team took on more than one. And some were perfectly happy watching from solid ground, cheering on their colleagues as they faced the canyon.

Add a mix of activities at OXBOW Adventures and a lunch at Kinross to refuel and swap stories about who screamed the loudest, and the day was complete.

A full day of adventure, supported by AJ Hackett Bungy NZ from start to finish.

The Nevis Playground: Three Ways to Face the Canyon

The Nevis is the ultimate place for a group that wants to go big. Tucked into the backcountry, it’s a proper adventure just getting there, and it has three very different ways to take on gravity.Nevis Playground group adventure activitiesNevis Bungy

New Zealand’s highest bungy, 134 metres above the canyon floor, with 8.5 seconds of pure freefall. The one everyone talks about on the bus home.

Nevis Swing

The world’s biggest swing, sweeping through a 300 metre arc at up to 120kph. You can go solo, or take a colleague with you and share the scream.

Nevis Catapult

Zero to 100kph in 1.5 seconds, launched 150 metres across the canyon. Face first. Not for the faint-hearted, and perfect for the office overachiever.

Kawarau Bungy Centre: A Great Base for Groups

If your group is after something a little closer to town, the Kawarau Bungy Centre is the perfect place to gather.

Home to the world’s first commercial bungy, it’s just 25 minutes from downtown Queenstown and overlooks the stunning Kawarau River.

And here’s the best part for whoever’s organising: you don’t have to do the organising on the day.

While our crew sort out the logistics, your group can settle in at our outdoor bar, grab some food and a drink, and soak up the view. Then it’s time for the main event.

Whether they’re taking on the Kawarau Bridge Bungy, flying over the river on the Kawarau Swing, or zipping across the gorge on the Zipride, there’s something for every comfort level. And for those who’d rather watch, the outdoor bar and viewing deck are the best seats in the house.

What you’ll notice is the atmosphere. Everyone’s there to support each other. The loudest cheers often go to the most nervous jumpers. And by the end of the day, there’s a very real sense of respect for the people who stepped up, and the people who backed them.

Not Everyone Has to Jump

One of the most common questions we get from group organisers is: “What if some of my team don’t want to do it?”

That’s completely fine.

A great team day isn’t about everyone doing the same thing. It’s about everyone being part of the same experience. Some will jump. Some will swing. Some will stand at the railing yelling encouragement with a drink in hand. They’re all part of it.

In fact, the cheer squad is often what gets the nervous ones over the edge.

Planning Your Group Booking

Every group is different, so we build every group experience around you.

  • Bungy bus transport is available, depending on group size
  • Choose from the Nevis Playground, the Kawarau Bungy Centre, or both
  • Mix and match activities so everyone can pick their level of thrill

Because the best team building doesn’t happen in a meeting room.

It happens on the edge, with everyone you work with cheering you on.
