Taupō
New Zealand's only cliff top Bungy & Swing.
Perched on the cliffs above the Waikato River, five minutes from Taupō town centre, AJ Hackett's Taupō site is New Zealand's only cliff-top bungy - and the only bungy site in the country where you jump from a cantilever platform directly over a river.
The Taupō Bungy & Swing site sits on a natural cliff edge above one of New Zealand's most iconic rivers - the Waikato - just a short drive from the centre of Taupō. It's the only AJ Hackett site in the North Island with both a bungy and a swing, and the viewing deck gives you a front-row seat above the river.
Taupō is one of New Zealand's most popular visitor destinations - a lakeside town on the shores of Lake Taupō in the central North Island, known for trout fishing, thermal activity, and proximity to Tongariro National Park. The Waikato River flows north from the lake through a series of gorges and rapids, including the famous Huka Falls just a few kilometres upstream from Taupo Bungy & Swing.
AJ Hackett's Taupō site is located at 202 Spa Road, on the cliffs above the Waikato River gorge. The cantilever platform extends out over the water, making it the only cliff-top bungy in New Zealand - a fundamentally different experience from a bridge-based jump. From the platform, you look directly down into the turquoise river below, with the gorge walls rising on either side.
The Taupō Swing uses the same dramatic setting, sweeping participants out over the gorge on a 44-metre arc. It's the only swing experience in the North Island, and one of the most scenic adventure experiences in the country.

AJ Hackett operates two experiences at the Taupō site: the Taupō Bungy (from $275 adult), a 47-metre cliff-top jump over the Waikato River, and the Taupō Swing (from $240 adult), a 44-metre pendulum swing over the same river at up to 70kph. Both experiences offer solo and tandem options and can be booked at bungy.co.nz.
The Taupō Bungy is New Zealand's only cliff-top bungy - instead of jumping from a bridge or a pod, you leap from a cantilever platform that extends directly out over the Waikato River gorge. The platform positions you above the river with gorge walls on either side, which gives a completely different visual experience from a bridge jump. A water touch is also available at Taupō, where jumpers can dip their head in the Waikato at the bottom of the rebound.
Yes - a water touch is possible at the Taupō Bungy, though it's not guaranteed as it depends on the river level on the day. Let your jump master know at check-in if you'd like to try for a water touch and they'll do their best to make it happen.
The site is at 202 Spa Road, Taupō - approximately 5-10 minutes by car from central Taupō. Head south on Tongariro Street then follow Spa Road. Free parking is available on site. You can also walk or cycle from central Taupō via the Great Lake Walkway (approximately 20–25 minutes on foot, 10 minutes by bike).
Yes - entry to the site is completely free for spectators. Friends and family can watch from the dedicated viewing deck overlooking the Waikato River at no charge and with no booking required.
Minimum age for both the Taupō Bungy and the Taupō Swing is 10 years old. Participants under 15 require a parent or guardian to sign consent at check-in. There is no upper age limit. All AJ Hackett experiences are free for participants aged 75 and over.
Transport options from central Taupō are limited. The site is a short drive or a 20-25 minute walk from town. If you need transport, contact the team via Live Chat or call 0800 888 408 before your visit and they can advise on current options.
Booking in advance is recommended, particularly during peak summer season (December-March) and school holidays. You can book online at bungy.co.nz or call 0800 888 408. Same-day availability does come up - check the website for last-minute slots.
