As you plan your snowy escape, you may wonder if you can still do an iconic bungy jump in winter. The answer is yes. Rain, sun, wind, or snow at AJ Hackett Bungy, we jump through almost anything.

Not only do we operate during all kinds of weather, but jumpers have described how stormy weather transformed their bungy experience from memorable to utterly epic.

That being said, we take your safety seriously. With 37 years of experience, we know when it’s all right to jump and when to shut down.

Here’s everything you need to know about bungy jumping in challenging weather conditions, how we handle cancellations with full refunds, and why stormy skies can lead to the adventure of a lifetime.

Jumping Through the Storm: What It’s Like to Bungy in Wild Weather

As I strode onto the platform, rain pelted my face, and my heart was hammering against my ribcage. My stomach was as turbulent as the moody clouds strewn in the sky above. The wind whipped across the Kawarau Bridge, adding to the intensity, as if nature was challenging me to embrace my wild side.

I glanced at the AJ Hackett crew member, who was grinning through the storm, reassuring me at every step. “The weather’s wild, but the jump will be epic!” they shouted over the wind. I nodded, barely hearing past the adrenaline roaring in my ears.

My breath whooshed from my chest as I looked down, rain had soaked me through, and my wet sweatshirt rippled in the wind. Far below, the Kawarau River was vivid and alive, its turquoise colour heightened against the stormy backdrop.

After another encouraging smile from the crew member, I took a deep breath and leaped, letting out a whoop that sliced through the wild weather.

The rain and wind intensified the free fall, creating a raw and exhilarating sensory overload. I was at one with nature, at one with the storm, heck, I was the storm. As I bounced back up, laughter escaped me. I’d never felt more alive.

After the crew had retrieved me, I was rugged up, watching the next person leap. I realised the weather hadn’t ruined my jump; it had made it unforgettable. The positive effects stayed with me long after I’d leaped. It was almost as if I’d dived into the swirling heart of nature and been reborn.

Bungy in Wet Weather with AJ Hackett

What Weather Does AJ Hackett Bungy Operate In?

Our bungy experiences generally run in most weather conditions, including rain, wind, and even snow.

However, sometimes Mother Nature has other ideas. High winds or electrical storms can make jumping unsafe. We use our 37 years of experience to assess all weather and make a safety-conscious call. In the unlikely event we shut down due to a storm, we’ll do everything possible to reschedule your jump at a time that suits you. If rescheduling isn’t possible, you’ll receive a full refund, no questions asked.

We always recommend booking your jump in advance to secure your preferred time, so if you are planning that winter ski trip and want to include a bungy, don’t let concern about the weather deter you.

If you hold a NZSki Superpass you even get a discount on your bungy jump, hit the slopes first thing and then make your après-ski a bungy, it doesn’t get more epic than that!

Remember to dress appropriately for the day when jumping in wild weather. Layers and waterproof clothing can make a huge difference in your comfort.

Why We Might Reschedule?

Certain weather conditions may lead us to temporarily halt jumps for safety reasons:

  • High winds could compromise stability on the jump platform, particularly at higher jumps like the Nevis Bungy.
  • Lightning or severe thunderstorms are an obvious safety risk. We never take chances with electrical storms.
  • Icy platforms or equipment could make jumping unsafe.

In these instances, your safety is our priority. Our staff carefully monitor the weather conditions and communicate your options. If any of these instances occur when your jump is scheduled, we will do our best to reschedule you, and if we can’t, you will get a full refund. Find out more in our AJ Hackett FAQ’s.

So that’s the lowdown on booking your bungy jump in winter. Jumping through a storm can feel like a metaphorical rebirth. When you leap into rain and roaring wind, you’ll shed mental baggage, emerging with a new sense of clarity and personal resilience.

When you bungy jump with AJ Hackett Bungy, we promise safety and an epic experience that will stay with you forever… rain, sun, wind, or snow.
