Planning a group adventure is all about balancing different energy levels while creating shared moments everyone can enjoy. The key is to choose a destination like Queenstown Kawarau Bridge bungy, where thrill-seekers can be challenged, and those who prefer a more cautious approach can cheer from the viewing decks, enjoy scenic surrounds, or opt for low-key experiences like the Zipride. Our crew will help you schedule activities close together and build in time for a group meal or photo session. It’s not about feeling pressure to do the same thing, but creating matching memories in different ways. That’s how you keep the crew together.

My Queenstown Bungy Group Booking Experience

I’ll admit it, when our company announced a Queenstown retreat, I pictured wine by the lake, not dangling by my ankles over a river. But when my colleague, Angela,  piped up about doing a bungy jump, somehow I found myself nodding along. Ange was a seasoned thrill-seeker who’d jump off anything if it had a safety cord attached. “You’re not serious,” our other colleague Matt said, his throat bobbing as he glanced between us. He was terrified of heights. I sat somewhere in the middle, a part of me hoping we’d opt for spa treatments instead, but also not wanting to be a party pooper.

But Ange was persistent, and soon we found ourselves scrolling the AJ Hackett website on our first afternoon. Matt paled as his eyes darted over the live videos of jumps, and I was more curious than committed. But as she scrolled through the site and I noticed the many five-star reviews and exhilarated faces, I began to feel like maybe this could be… fun?

The following day, we boarded the big blue “Live More, Fear Less” bungy bus and were all in good spirits. Ange was gagging for some bungy action, Matt was happy knowing he could watch safely from the viewing deck, and I was willing to see where the day took me. As we wound our way toward the Kawarau River, the seats were filled with a mixture of laughter and nervousness. The views were already incredible, but the atmosphere was what struck me most. It was supportive and energising all at once.

Fear Less With Friends

When we arrived, we went straight to the bungy centre and the attendant helped us map out a group itinerary that suited all our adrenaline levels. Bungy for the brave (Ange), Zipride for the unsure (Matt and I), and plenty of time to spectate, cheer each other on, and take it all in.

We started by watching others leap from the bridge. That helped. Seeing the smiles after the jumps, the high-fives, and shaky-legged celebrations. It slowly chipped away at our nerves, well, mine and Matt’s. Ange was almost bursting with impatience.

Ange practically sprinted to the bridge when it was her turn. No hesitation, just pure joy as she soared off the platform and bounced over the glistening turquoise river. The staff cheered her on, and we joined in from the deck, screaming her name.

Then it was our turn for the Zipride. Side by side, Matt and I clipped in. It was fast, fun, and exactly what we needed to loosen up and still feel part of the action. As we soared over the river, I found myself laughing – genuinely laughing – and forgetting I’d ever been nervous.

Afterwards, we regrouped for lunch on-site, sharing stories, watching more jumps, and soaking in the energy of the place. And somewhere between my second bite of sandwich and another round of encouragement, something clicked.

I stood up, walked back to the counter, and booked myself in for the bungy.

My legs trembled as I stood on the edge, but the crew was right there, talking me through it with calm and kind assurance. I took a deep breath… and leapt. For a breathless moment, I flew, and my heart swelled with the beauty of it all.

Then it was over. I’d done it.

“I get it now,” I gushed as I rushed back to the others, the magic of the experience coursing through me.

As the three of us walked back toward the bungy bus, my blood was zipping. I felt energised and instilled with a new sense of confidence. I nudged my shoulder into Ange and said with a grin. “43 metres was nothing, let’s do the Nevis bungy tomorrow.”

Ange let out a raucous cackle and swung her arm around me.

Matt shook his head and mumbled. “I need a wine.”

I realise now that it’s not just about jumping off a bridge for the thrills. It was about surprising myself, finding strength in connection, and doing something I never thought I could. That shared experience brought our small team closer than any meeting room ever could.
