Is three really a crowd? At AJ Hackett, it’s just triple the fun! Grab your two besties (or brave it with strangers, if you think things could get… awkward afterwards) and get ready to swing in September.

Since launching the world’s first commercial bungy in 1988, AJ Hackett has led the way in adventure innovation. That pioneering spirit continues with the Kawarau Swing; soon to be the South Island’s first-ever three-person swing. Construction is progressing rapidly, and the launch is scheduled for this September.

The Only Way to Swing in the South Island

This new, and only, swing in the South Island offers something completely fresh. Whether you’re flying solo, teaming up with a mate, or going full trio, this custom-designed swing caters to all appetites.

Stepping onto the iconic viewing deck at the Kawarau Bungy Centre, it is easy to see how this view draws in over 400,000 spectators a year. This will be the future home of the Kawarau Swing. Drilling beneath the viewing deck is now complete, and this week the steel swing platform has been lifted into place, bringing the project one step closer to launch.

Those of you who’ve previously come along just to watch will have the opportunity to dip your toes into the adventurous spirit.

Once you’re harnessed in and safety checks are complete, the floor beneath you disappears, and boom, you’re swinging up to 43 metres above the glistening Kawarau River, before being winched back up to the platform.

It’s big, bold, and it’s built for sharing. The Kawarau Swing gives you all the thrills without a full-on freefall…

We’ve heard swinging is seriously addictive, so don’t be surprised if you’re ready to bungy next. If that’s the case, no worries we’ve got you covered with add-ons! 😉

For the Seasoned Swinger or First Timer…

Queenstown is known as the adventure capital of the world, and all visitors should have the opportunity to experience this. The new swing at the iconic Kawarau site welcomes both seasoned thrill-seekers and first-timers looking to ease into adventure.

“Not everyone who visits the Kawarau Bridge chooses to do a bungy jump,” AJHBNZ CEO David Mitchell explained. “That’s why we’ve designed the Kawarau Swing to appeal to people who are seeking a different experience, which hits that sweet spot between the full-on adrenaline rush of a bungy and the pure joy of a zipride.”

The new experience joins AJ Hackett Bungy NZ’s legendary lineup at the historic Kawarau Bridge, already home to the world’s first commercial bungy and a popular family zipride. With the addition of the swing, it’s shaping up to be the ultimate go-to for group adventures.

Always Swing Safely

As with all things AJ Hackett does, safety is always the top priority, and that includes swinging!

With the foundations set, the final phases are coming together quickly, backed by AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand’s world-class safety systems, which have been refined over three decades of adventure innovation.

“As the swing comes to life, all stages of development will incorporate AJ Hackett Bungy New Zealand’s proven safety systems,” Mitchell explained. Get ready because Queenstown’s newest thrill ride means that spring will be the season to swing.
